Pademelons are small forest dwelling marsupials of the macropod (i.e., kangaroo, wallaby) family and are fairly abundant in Tasmania. Pademelons are also found in NSW, Queensland and parts of New Guinea. The unusual name is a corruption of badimaliyan, from the Dharuk languange of Port Jackson (i.e., Sydney) region.
