Apart from the cold, the other main challenge to making images this day was the driving wind and snow (you can get a better sense of the conditions from
this tundra blizzard image, which was taken earlier in the day). At its worst, it was like shooting through a muslin screen.
The trick then was waiting for the occasional lulls in the weather and hoping the bear would be co-operative. Even then, there's an almost soft focus
quality to the images because of all the snow and ice in the air.
