Growing up in Australia, I'm used to wide, flat vistas, but the tundra was so different. It is quite remarkable. Obviously the ice and cold provide sharp contrasts, but the literally millions of frozen ponds and lakes that perforate the landscape are unlike anything I've ever seen before.
