The highest of the two main peaks of the Monte Rosa massif, at 4,634 metres, Dufourspitze is the highest peak in Switzerland and the second highest in Western Europe behind Mont Blanc in France. This image shows the western ridge that runs from the peak down to the head of the Grenzgletscher. Taken at the same time as this image of Liskamm, what caught my eye was both the jagged ridgeline and what must have been howling winds blowing snow off the peaks. Although it was a beautiful, calm day at Gornergrat, from where this was taken, up on the Monte Rosa massif, it looked like an entirely different proposition.

Shot on Fuji Velvia ISO 50 using a Nikon F5 and an AF 300mm f4 lens.
